Watch the City website and social media next summer for registration details. A GREAT NIGHT TO UNITE! GREETINGS NEIGHBORS! There are few traditions that bring our community together quite like the Otsego Prairie Festival & Car Show, and this year we’re excited to celebrate a very special milestone—the 25th Otsego Prairie Festival. 25th Annual Otsego Prairie Festival & Car Show - September 12th While we’re celebrating the 25th Otsego Prairie Festival this year, the fall festival tradition began in 1991 with the Great River Road Fest. That event was created to celebrate Otsego becoming a city the year before, and the celebration was held at the VFW fields off Quaday Avenue. Although the Great River Road Fest was held for only one year, it laid out the foundation for a tradition that would return a decade later. In 2002, the celebration was revived by dedicated residents with a new name and a new home at Otsego Prairie Park. The Otsego Festival was organized and operated by an all-volunteer committee led by Rose Cassady, with support from the City of Otsego, for the next 11 years. Their vision was simple: to bring residents, businesses, and visitors together each September to showcase and celebrate our growing community and make them feel connected.  Year after year, the festival continued to grow, and in 2013 the City of Otsego Parks & Recreation Department along with a newly formed committee officially assumed responsibility for the event, renaming it the Otsego Prairie Festival while continuing to build on the strong foundation established by the group before them. Although the name has changed and our city has grown, the heart of the festival has remained the same by celebrating our community and the people and businesses who make Otsego such a wonderful place to live, work, and play. The events for this year include a day full of live entertainment, food trucks, inflatables, a beer garden, local vendors, a petting zoo, Bingo, a pickleball tournament, car show, bean bag tournament and fireworks at dusk to close out the day. More than anything, the Otsego Prairie festival is an opportunity to welcome new residents, reconnect with our neighbors, and celebrate everything that makes Otsego special, and most of the items I listed above are free to visitors due to the generous sponsors we have in our community. I want to extend special thanks to the many volunteers who have made this festival possible over the years. For 25 years, countless individuals have generously given their time, energy, and talents to plan, organize, coordinate, set up and clean up long after the celebration ends. Many have returned year after year, quietly working behind the scenes throughout the year simply because they believe in bringing our community together. Our community is stronger because of your service, and we are sincerely grateful for all you do. I’d also like to recognize our sponsors, local businesses, city staff, public safety partners from the Wright County Sheriff’s Office, Albertville Fire Department, Elk River Fire Department, and Rogers Fire Department, the Otsego Lions Club, and Otsego Rod & Custom. Your continued commitment has helped transform the Otsego Prairie Festival & Car Show from a small community gathering into one of Otsego’s most attended events, and we could not do it without your partnerships. On behalf of our entire community, thank you for your generosity, and the pride you take in making this event something special for everyone to enjoy year after year.  On behalf of the City Council, thank you for being part of what makes Otsego such a special place. I hope you’ll join us in celebrating the 25th Otsego Prairie Festival & Car Show on Saturday, September 12, from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm. More information about all the events scheduled throughout this fun-filled day can be found online at otsegoprairiefestival.com. 4 | 2026 Fall Otsego View Jessica Stockamp MAYOR OF OTSEGO jstockamp@otsegomn.gov Past Prairie Festival attendee pets a llama at the petting zoo. For many years, Otsego benefited from contracted fire service from neighboring departments. As the community has grown, the City has reached an important milestone by establishing a fully staffed local fire department capable of serving the community from within its own borders. Starting in January 2027, the fire departments from Albertville, Elk River, Rogers, and Monticello will no longer be the primary responders within the City of Otsego. Instead, Otsego firefighters and apparatus will respond directly from the new station, providing dedicated service to our residents and businesses. While mutual aid agreements will be in place for large-scale emergencies or extraordinary incidents, day-to-day emergency response will now be provided by the Otsego Fire Department. “For the first time, Otsego will have a dedicated fire department responding to calls from right here in our own community.” The City of Otsego’s new fire station is complete and on track to become fully operational in January 2027. More than a new building, it is a long-term investment in public safety, providing modern facilities, expanded equipment space, and the resources needed to serve our growing community for years to come. “This new station represents an investment in the safety of every resident, business, and visitor in Otsego- today and for generations to come.” Building the Future The City has assembled a dedicated team to serve the new station, including Fire Chief Jim McCoy, Fire Captain Aaron Ende, Fire Marshal Cary Smith, Firefighter Grant Carlson, along with additional firefighters and cadets. Chief McCoy will lead the department, Captain Ende will oversee daily operations and emergency response, and Fire Marshal Smith will focus on fire prevention, code enforcement, public education, and community risk reduction. Firefighters and cadets are completing training and preparing to serve the community when the station opens. Together, the new station and growing team reflect Otsego’s continued investment in providing exceptional emergency services for residents, businesses, and visitors. Apparatus Update: All Four Fire Trucks Have Arrived! Another exciting milestone has been reached—all fire apparatus are now housed in the new station. The station is now home to the Fire Engine, Ladder Platform, Tender/ Tanker, Fire Chief SUV, and Brush Unit, ensuring these essential vehicles and equipment are ready for rapid response as our team continues serving the community. Whether responding to fires, medical emergencies, vehicle crashes, or rescue calls, these apparatus will provide firefighters with the tools they need to protect the community. From cell phones and laptops to e-bikes, scooters, power tools, and children’s toys, rechargeable batteries make life more convenient—but they also require safe charging habits. Safe Charging Tips • Use the charger designed for your device whenever possible. • Charge devices on hard, stable surfaces where heat can dissipate. • Never charge devices on beds or sofas. • Replace damaged batteries immediately. • Keep charging devices away from exits and escape routes. • Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for charging and storage. Stop by the Fire Station Open House during Fire Prevention Week to learn more about protecting your home and family from fire hazards. STORMWATER POLLUTION: ILLICIT DISCHARGE What is Stormwater? Stormwater is precipitation from rain or snow that does not get absorbed into the ground. It flows across our yards, driveways, and roads, and picks up contaminants on its way into storm drains and ditches. These drains and ditches lead directly into our waterways. The contaminants in stormwater are known as illicit discharge. What is Illicit Discharge? Illicit discharge is any pollutant that enters the City’s storm sewer system, including pet waste, fertilizer, yard waste, oil, chemicals, sewage, construction sediment, and chlorinated pool water. Signs of illicit discharge include unusual water color or cloudiness, strong odors, foam, oil sheen, floating debris, or dead fish. Is Illicit Discharge Harmful? Yes! Unlike water from our homes, stormwater is not treated before it flows into lakes, rivers, and streams. Pollutants like fertilizer, yard waste, pet waste, and chlorinated pool water can harm aquatic life, contribute to algae blooms, and reduce water quality. Can I Help Prevent Illicit Discharge? • Cleaning up after pets • Composting yard waste • Using less fertilizer or choosing phosphorus- free fertilizer • Maintaining your septic system • Fixing vehicle leaks • Properly disposing of litter What Should I Do If I See Illicit Discharge? Please call the City of Otsego at 763.441.4414 and describe what, where, and when you saw the illicit discharge. SENIOR DAY TRIPS | 15www.OtsegoParksRec.com CELEBRATING OUR OTSEGO VOLUNTEERS The City of Otsego Parks & Recreation is proud to recognize two outstanding volunteers whose dedication has made a lasting impact on our Senior Programs. For nearly eight years, Sheryl Theuninck has led our weekly Line Dance classes, bringing seniors together for fun, fitness, and friendship. Her dancers also perform annually at the Prairie Festival. Over the past three years, Cindy Everson has expanded senior programming by introducing activities such as Mahjong, Mexican Train, 500, art classes, and card making. Through donated supplies and materials, many of these programs are offered at little or no cost. Together, Sheryl and Cindy have created meaningful opportunities for seniors to stay active, creative, and connected. Thank you both for your incredible dedication to our community! Sheryl Theuninck Cindy Everson As summer comes to a close, we extend our sincere thanks to our seasonal employees who supported our Utilities, Parks, and Streets departments. Your hard work, dedication, and positive attitude helped keep Otsego running smoothly and looking its best throughout the busy summer months. A big congratulations to Sandy Lindenfelser on celebrating 25 years of service with the City! Thank you for your years of commitment, hard work, and the positive difference you’ve made in serving the Otsego community.
