BACKGROUND/JUSTIFICATION:
Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) are an important part of the personal protective equipment for
firefighters. Firefighters will wear SCBA in atmospheres that are dangerous or potentially dangerous to life and
health. The quote includes a mask for each individual fire fighter, air pack with 2 bottles, 2 Rapid Intervention Team
packs, and rechargeable batteries. The chosen equipment is an SCBA that is identical to neighboring departments we
will be working with in the future. The life cycle of SCBA is 15 years.
City staff obtained two quotes for the SCBA from 3G Safety Supply and Alex Air Apparatus, with Alex Air Apparatus
providing the lowest quote for the SCBA in the amount of $245,661. The Capital Improvement Plan included funding
in the amount of $1,369,512 for department tools and loose equipment, with $261,900 of that total amount allocated
for SCBA equipment.
