City staff is recommending the City Council approve a letter of intent for a fleet vehicle purchase.

BACKGROUND/JUSTIFICATION:
The Fleet Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) includes the replacement of the Combo Unit Jet-Vac Truck. The City
procured the existing unit in 2010 and with generous maintenance has extended its life for a planned replacement in
2027. Working with the vendor staff has built the combination unit to its useful specifications with consideration of
the vendor using as a demo model in 2026 for a reduced price for the City’s benefit in acceptance in 2027. Using state
contract pricing has arrived at an equipment investment of $614,674.75. Benefiting reduction of demo pricing is
expected to lower price approximately $10,000.
The combo unit provides multi department use and staff has derived the following cost consideration of 15%
Wastewater funded, 60% Storm Water funded, and 25% Public Works funded. The purchase will be funded through
the Sanitary Sewer fund with repayment support of corresponding accounts with a replacement schedule of 12 years.
Within the year this unit arrives the current unit will be auctioned.
Staff recommend signing a letter of intent to establish procurement path and 2027 arrival.
The Public works Subcommittee was presented this information at their May 2026 meeting with recommendation for
consideration of approval by the City Council at a future meeting.
