GREETINGS
NEIGHBORS!
Summer is finally here, and
with it comes a variety of fun
events, activities, and park and
recreation projects throughout
Otsego. Be sure to check out
the program guide included with
this edition of the Otsego View,
which includes information
about Arts in the Parks, Color Run 250, T-ball,
youth camps, kayak rentals, Night to Unite, along
with the highlights below.
Otsego Farmers Market
The Otsego Farmers Market tradition continues
every Tuesday from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm in the
Otsego Coborn’s parking lot, beginning June 17th
through August 25th. Our Parks and Recreation
staff continue to bring in local farmers offering
delicious seasonal produce, along with vendors
selling a variety of goods.
The Otsego Lions Club has once again partnered
with the City of Otsego to offer the “Power of
Produce” (POP) Program. This free program
is available to children who attend the Otsego
Farmers’ Market and enroll at the Parks &
Recreation booth. Participants receive a $2 POP
token each Tuesday to purchase fresh fruits or
vegetables from local farmers. Tokens can be spent
right away or saved for a larger purchase at a
future market.
Otsego Coborn’s has also graciously sponsored the
55+ Senior POP Program, where seniors can receive
a $3 token on the second Tuesday of each month.
Be sure to stop by the Parks & Recreation booth for
more information about these programs.
Busy Summer For The Parks
Department
This summer will be very busy for our Parks
Department as they oversee several projects:
• The largest project is the renovation of Lily Pond
Park, located in the northwest part of Otsego
off Kadler Avenue. Improvements include new
play structures, trail enhancements, resurfaced
tennis courts, parking lot upgrades, and additional
landscaping.
• The Parks and Recreation Commission is
continuing work on Phase 1 of the Prairie Park
Master Plan. The City Council has approved
design and engineering agreements, marking an
important step toward improvements at one of
the community’s most widely used parks. There
will be multiple opportunities for residents and
stakeholders to engage in the process. For more
information, please visit the city website.
25th Annual Otsego Prairie Festival
& Car Show - September 12th
Finally, be sure to mark your calendars for the
25th Annual Otsego Prairie Festival & Car Show on
Saturday, September 12th. This all-day community
event features activities, games, vendors, food,
music, and entertainment, ending with fireworks
at dusk. It’s a great opportunity to come together
as a community and showcase the many local
organizations and businesses that call Otsego home.
Watch for updates as the event approaches at
www.OtsegoFestival.com and on Facebook. If
you are interested in participating as a vendor or
exhibitor, please visit the Parks and Recreation page
on the City’s website for more information or to

In the Otsego community, access to recreation and
wellness opportunities doesn’t happen by chance—
it’s built through strong, lasting partnerships. One
of the most impactful of these continues to be the
collaboration between The Bank of Elk River and the
Otsego Parks and Recreation Department.
With a shared commitment to promoting healthy
lifestyles, The Bank of Elk River has once again
stepped forward to support free and reduced-cost
recreational opportunities for residents in 2026. This
ongoing investment helps ensure that individuals and
families of all ages can stay active, connected, and
engaged throughout the year.
This year marks a significant milestone: thirteen years
of partnership between the Bank and the City’s Parks
and Recreation Department. Over that time, The Bank
of Elk River has contributed more than $85,500, along
with hundreds of volunteer hours—an investment that
has made a meaningful difference in expanding access
to programs and community events.
Beyond the numbers, the impact is seen in packed
programs, smiling faces at events, and a stronger
sense of community across Otsego. It’s a partnership
rooted not just in funding, but in a shared vision of
what a thriving community can be.
As Otsego continues to grow, so too does the
importance of collaboration. The Otsego Parks and
Recreation Department is proud to continue this
relationship and looks forward to building on this
momentum in 2026 and beyond—ensuring that
opportunities for health, wellness, and connection
remain accessible to all.

What’s Happening in Development
Otsego is experiencing steady growth, with a range of new developments and redevelopment projects
emerging throughout the City. From housing proposals currently under review to large-scale construction
already in progress, here’s an overview of what’s being planned and what’s actively taking shape.
Foss Swim School
The Foss Swim School, based in Eden Prairie, is planning to develop a
new commercial lot within the Great River Centre of Otsego 8th Addition
near the Good Day Car Wash. The project includes construction of a
9,600-square-foot swim school, expanding its presence to Otsego.
Everbrook Academy
Everbrook Academy opened its doors in April, the 11,700-square-foot
daycare is located at 8677 Parson Avenue NE, near Wings Financial and Tires
Plus. Everbrook Academy offers programs for infants through school-age
children, featuring hands-on learning in science, technology, engineering,
the arts, and math to help prepare young learners for the future.
Canvas Craft
Canvas Craft, a longtime manufacturer of outdoor and industrial fabric
products in Otsego, is expanding at its Queens Avenue location. The project
includes rezoning the property from R3 (Residential) to I3 (Special Industrial)
and construction of a 12,000-square-foot building addition to support
continued growth of their business.

The City of Otsego is proud to
welcome Jim McCoy as its new
Fire Chief, a dedicated leader with
deep Minnesota roots and decades
of experience in fire service and
public safety.
A Minnesota native, Chief McCoy
grew up in and around Hastings
and is a graduate of Hastings
High School. His career in fire
service began with the Hastings
Fire Department as a firefighter and has since spanned
multiple communities and roles, reflecting both his
commitment and versatility. He served with MAST
Ambulance in Kansas City, Missouri and as a firefighter
in Independence, Missouri, before returning to
Minnesota to join the Rochester Fire Department.
There, he rose through the ranks, serving as a
firefighter, motor operator, and captain.
Chief McCoy’s leadership journey continued as he took
on the role of Fire Chief for the City of Austin, where
he served with distinction for 12 years. Throughout his
career, he has demonstrated a strong commitment
to community safety, professional development, and
building effective, responsive fire service teams. He
earned a bachelor’s degree in Fire Science from Waldorf
University, highlighting his dedication to the field.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Chief McCoy
is a family man. He and his wife, Wanda, are parents to
three daughters: Brooke, Kaitlyn, and Maddie.
As Otsego welcomes Chief McCoy, the community
gains not only an experienced fire service professional,
but also a leader devoted to service, safety, and
connection. Please join us in extending a warm welcome
to Chief McCoy as he begins this new chapter with
the City of Otsego Fire Department.

the Elk River Area Chamber of Commerce, was
held May 13th at Rockwoods and welcomed more
than 30 attendees for a morning of networking and
community connections. Guests heard updates from
Otsego City Administrator Adam Flaherty and Wright
County Sergeant Jason Oltmanns before manager
Jake Trevis and the Rockwoods catering team guided
attendees on a behind-the-scenes tour of the facility,
including the expansive kitchen and prep areas.

local businesses by sourcing eggs from a Buffalo-area
farm, bakery items from Blue Egg and Diamond City
Bread, and beer from smaller Twin Cities breweries.

NEW! SENIOR DAY TRIPS
| 15www.OtsegoParksRec.com
Over the decades,
the crossing
has evolved to
meet the needs
of a growing
population. What
began as a modest
structure designed for horse-drawn wagons and
early automobiles eventually gave way to modern
improvements capable of supporting today’s traffic.
Through floods, harsh Minnesota winters, and
changing times, the bridge has remained a steady
presence-a testament to thoughtful engineering and
community investment.
Beyond its practical purpose, the bridge has
become part of the area’s character. Generations
have crossed it for work, school, celebrations,
and quiet drives along the river. It frames views of
the Mississippi’s shifting seasons- from spring ice
breakups to vibrant autumn colors-serving as a
reminder of the natural beauty that defines
this region.
As Elk River and Otsego continue to grow, the
bridge remains a symbol of connection—not only
between two cities, but between past and present.
Celebrating 120 years is more than recognizing a
date; it is honoring the resilience, cooperation,
and shared history that built and sustained this
vital crossing.
A BRIDGE THROUGH TIME: 120 YEARS
CONNECTING ELK RIVER AND OTSEGO
For more than a century, the bridge spanning the
mighty Mississippi River between Elk River and Otsego
has stood as both a landmark and a lifeline. This
year marks 120 years since the original crossing first
connected the two communities, shaping the region’s
growth and identity in lasting ways.
When the bridge first opened in the early 20th century,
it represented far more than steel and stone. It linked
families, farms, and businesses on either side of the
river, turning what had once been a barrier into a
gateway. Before its construction, travel across the
Mississippi often depended on ferries or long detours.
The bridge changed that overnight, improving trade
routes and making daily life more efficient for residents.
