03-10-26 OHPC Meeting MinutesOTSEGO HERITAGE PRESERVATION COMMISSION MEETING Lily Pond Conference Room at City Hall Wednesday, March 10, 2026 7:00 PM Call to Order. This mee1ng was called to order at 6:58 PM. Roll Call: Commissioners: Kelly Kiffmeyer, Brooke Nault, Toni Seroshek and Chris Wilson. CM Tanner and Lund. City Planner Dan Licht. Absent: Chair Tami S1nski. Open forum call: N/A 4.Consider Agenda Approval: Commissioner Kiffmeyer mo1oned to approve the agenda as wriPen, seconded by Commissioner Nault. All in favor. Mo1on carried. 4.1 Consider the following minutes: November 13, 2025 Commissioner Kiffmeyer mo1oned to approve the minutes as wriPen, seconded by Commissioner Nault. All in favor. Mo1on carried. 5.Annual Business: 5.1 Elec1on of Commission Chair, Vice Chair and Secretary Tami S1nski submiPed a resigna1on email from both the Chair posi1on and the Commission. Jim Penick had previously resigned in December through correspondence with CM Tanner. Dan Licht discussed email conversa1ons between Tami and Jim and also replied to Tami separately. Commissioner Seroshek noted that pushback Tami received from the City Council regarding the winter break was an impetus for her resigna1on. Chris Wilson nominated Brooke Nault for Secretary. Kelly Kiffmeyer requested clarifica1on regarding the 1me commitment required if she were nominated for Chair, with Seroshek as Vice Chair. Commissioner Seroshek noted that the role primarily involves seZng the agenda. Kelly Kiffmeyer was elected Chair. Commissioner Seroshek was elected Vice Chair. Commissioner Nault was elected Secretary. 6. New Business: 6.1 2026 goals and projects: Commissioner Kiffmeyer will work with Heidi to share Facebook posts about the history of Otsego in an effort to aPract poten1al new commission members. Commissioner Kiffmeyer discussed developing a stronger knowledge base of OHPC materials to assist with succession planning and reviewing items currently in the commission’s inventory. Page 1 of 3 Commissioner Seroshek noted that an inventory list exists on the commission laptop and will forward the inventory sheet to the commissioners. The commission will begin annota1ng the document and reviewing inventory items during mee1ngs going forward. 6.2 Forum Conference July 22-26: SHPO will not have a fall conference in 2026. The forum conference is new and commissioners will review. 6.3 Fire sta1on display photos - history highlights of Otsego. Dan Licht shared that he received direc1on from Interim Fire Chief Mike that the fire department would like to add images highligh1ng Otsego’s history to one of its walls. The images do not necessarily need to be fire-related. Ideas discussed included images of the LaPlant House, Ron Black’s fire truck, the Round Barn, and upda1ng the Friedrich Park sign. Because the fire department is located on the former Friedrich farmstead, addi1onal informa1on about the fire department could be incorporated into the sign. Commissioner Nault asked about the 1meline for the project. Dan Licht indicated a loose 1meline with a preference for comple1on by the end of the year. He encouraged commissioners to take a tour of the fire department to view the space and gather informa1on on size, layout, and the number of images that could be displayed. Commissioner Wilson suggested scanning posters from the fes1val to avoid duplica1ng work. Dan Licht will email the Friedrich Park sign and the write-up that appeared in the View to the commissioners for review, edits, and suggested changes. 7. Old Business 7.1 Time Capsule Commissioner Nault will email CM Tanner (ctanner@otsego.mn.gov) the Google Drive link containing the Q&A responses from the City Council, Mayor, and Dan Licht to be included in the 1me capsule. Commissioner Nault presented the items currently collected for the 1me capsule and asked for sugges1ons of addi1onal tangible items that could be included. CM Lund suggested adding a LEGO figurine, which evolved into the idea of including a firefighter figurine to commemorate the crea1on of the Otsego Fire Department. Commissioner Nault will follow up on this idea and will also review the fire department website for photos that could be included. Commissioner Kiffmeyer will look into obtaining a K-Pop Demon Hunters figurine as an addi1onal item. Commissioner Nault requested that all items be photographed and sealed in the 1me capsule at the next OHPC mee1ng. CM Lund will reach out to the Mayor about aPending the 1me capsule sealing. Dan Licht will contact Mike regarding the possibility of including one of the challenge coins distributed by the fire department. Michelle suggested including a flyer from the cemetery tour along with a brief history of the cemetery in the event it no longer exists in the same loca1on in the future. Commissioner Kiffmeyer will follow-up on history to add to cemetery tour. 7.2 Posters - N/A Page of 2 3 7.3 Cemetery Tour Commissioner Kiffmeyer discussed the possibility of partnering with SOAR and will begin reaching out to connect with them to discuss planning the cemetery tour. CM Lund shared that the Sorenson’s daughter, who lived in the home where the murder took place, may be willing to speak about her experiences as a child living there. 7.4 1914 Barn Commissioners’ will choose amongst the photographs taken by John Waldron to be included in the 1914 barn write-up at the next mee1ng. Commissioner Penick’s write-up is on a flash drive and Commissioner Kiffmeyer will reach out to him to retrieve the informa1on. 7.5 Prairie fes1val - Commissioners will start to think of ideas. 8. Next mee1ng April 14, 2026. 9. Council Updates: CM Tanner and Lund discussed fire sta1on, Costco opening and new addi1ons that will be coming to the community. 10. Adjourn.
