AGENDA ITEM DETAILS
RECOMMENDATION:
City staff recommend the City Council accept a quote and authorize irrigation equipment replacement.
ARE YOU SEEKING APPROVAL OF A CONTRACT? IS A PUBLIC HEARING REQUIRED?
No No
BACKGROUND/JUSTIFICATION:
The irrigation system at Dale Lehrke Fields relies on the ability to pump water from the holding pond located behind
the City Hall/Public Works Facility. The original pump equipment, installed in 2013, has reached the end of its service
life and has failed. Replacement parts for the existing system are now obsolete, and the equipment is no longer
supported by the manufacturer.
City staff have researched multiple pump options and configurations from contractors recommended by the Utility
Department. Based on this review, the system recommended by Traut Companies is best suited for the City’s current
needs. Traut Companies has proposed a modernized pump system that integrates with the existing infrastructure
while offering improved technology and reliability. In addition, Traut Companies have provided a list of municipalities,
school districts, and universities currently utilizing this system for the same type of irrigation application the City
intends to implement at Dale Lehrke Fields. This provides confidence in both the performance and long-term support
of the recommended solution.
This proposal was presented to the Administrative Subcommittee at its September 10, 2025, meeting. The
Administrative Subcommittee discussed the funding source for this repair. Staff presented options including Fund 205
– Parks Capital Equipment, Fund 215 – Vireo Health, and Fund 414 – Capital Improvement Revolving. Staff noted that
this repair was unforeseen and was not budgeted, however Fund 205 had budgeted savings in the amount of $36,175
from the parking lot improvements at School Knoll Park. The Administrative Subcommittee concurred with that
funding source and recommended the project move forward for consideration of City Council approval.
