AGENDA ITEM DETAILS RECOMMENDATION: City staff is recommending the City Council approve the hiring of the Utility Operator position. ARE YOU SEEKING APPROVAL OF A CONTRACT? IS A PUBLIC HEARING REQUIRED? No No BACKGROUND/JUSTIFICATION: The addition of a Utility Operator was budgeted and scheduled for 2025, coinciding with the West Wastewater Treatment Facility expansion completion. Recruitment with an application period closed June 4, 2025; with fourteen applications received and seven candidates interviewed. City Staff recommends hiring Charles Schanlaub for the Utility Operator addition at Pay Grade 8, Step 1 based on licensure with an anticipated late July start date. Charles will support all Utility Operations with a specialized focus within the West Wastewater Treatment division. Charles has successfully completed the required background check and pre- employment screening.
