Item 3.1 10-08-24 OHPC Draft Meeting MinutesOTSEGO HERITAGE PRESERVATION COMMISSION
MEETING
Lily Pond Conference Room at City Hall
Tuesday, October 8, 2024
7:00 PM
Call to Order.
This meeting was called to order at 6:59 PM.
Roll Call: Chair: Toni Seroshek, Commissioners Jim Penick, Kelly Kiffmeyer, Tami Stinski, and
Chris Wilson (Alternate) present. Brooke Nault – excused absence
City Council: CM Brittany Moores present
1.Consider Agenda Approval:
Commissioner Tami Stinski to approve the agenda as written with two additions from Jim
regarding the Round barn and Native Americans, seconded by Commissioner Chris Wilson. All
in favor. Motion carried 5-0.
2.Consider the following minutes:
2.1 September 10, 2024.
Commissioner Kelly Kiffmeyer motioned to approve the minutes as written, seconded by
Commissioner Chris Wilson. All in favor. Motion carried 5-0.
4.Prairie Festival
Attendance not as good as last year due to rain and storms – 7000 vs 11000. Chris was happy
that the tent was put up ahead of their arrival and that furniture and other stuff were placed
under the tent. The car show music and loudspeaker were not good for us so will need to adjust
placement of our booth or car show speakers for next year. OHPC banner should have been on
outside of tent. We tried to think of more ways to engage festival goers – quiz or brochure with
Tootsie pop, standing in front of tables instead of sitting behind, maybe some sort of activity.
5.SHPO Conference
Tami gave us a photo presentation of historical highlights of Red Wing, the location of the
conference, including the St. James Hotel, Red Wing pottery, Red Wing shoes, Sheldon theater.
Also, Waseca high school students created a virtual tour of their town and Tami thought this
would be good idea for us.
6.New Park Sign
We reviewed proofs of the Friedrich Park sign. Chris found 2 errors. The date was missing from
one photo. Brittany will take those corrections to Dan. Chris Wilson moved to approve the sign
with those corrections. Tami Stinski seconded. All in favor. Motion carried 5-0.
Item 3.1
7. Updates:
7.1 Updates on City Council actions.
City Council CM Brittany updated OHPC on City Council Action Items.
7.2 Updates on Heritage Preservation items. No updates.
8. Agenda add-ons
Jim Penick told the group that Kevin Lefebvre will be moving so the fate of the round barn is
unknown. Jim isn’t sure what can be done – the barn needs stabilization, could there be a
fundraising to keep it, etc. We doubted that the city would take on any such expense.
Also, someone asked Jim about Native American history in Otsego. Toni referred him to a
poster OHPC did several years ago. That poster hangs in Prairie Center. If more needs to be
done, he can bring it to the next meeting.
9. Adjourn.
Commissioner Tami Stinski motioned to adjourn the meeting at 8:05 PM, seconded by
Commissioner Jim Penick. All in favor. Motion carried 5-0.
Minutes prepared by Commissioner Toni Seroshek.
