AGENDA ITEM DETAILS
RECOMMENDATION:
City staff recommends the City Council authorize the procurement of a fleet vehicle.
ARE YOU SEEKING APPROVAL OF A CONTRACT? IS A PUBLIC HEARING REQUIRED?
No No
BACKGROUND/JUSTIFICATION:
In November 2022, the City Council voted to create the Emergency Services Department, and in April 2023
voted to hire the Emergency Services Director (ESD) position. The ESD will begin employment with the City
in July 2023 and will need a vehicle to fulfill their position.
The ESD has indicated that a crew cab four-wheel drive pickup would be the ideal vehicle due to serving as
a daily vehicle initially, and as the department transitions to operations it would be repurposed as a
wildland fire response vehicle.
The City currently does not have any excess vehicles that could be used for this purpose, and City staff has
experienced difficulties purchasing off the state contract as supply is extremely limited and there is a short
window for placing orders. Staff are recommending the purchase of a vehicle through the retail market.
Staff are requesting authorization for a maximum purchase price of $60,000 plus tax, title, and licensing.
This would allow staff to identify the most appropriate new or used vehicle and purchase in real time.
The Administrative Subcommittee was presented with this information at their June 14 meeting and the
Public Works Subcommittee at their June 21 meeting with recommendation for City Council consideration
and approval.
